Our journey through the world of electromagnetism and the development of modern telecommunication begins at the Edinburgh birthplace of the scientist who wrote the equations that many physicists consider the greatest of all time: James Clerk Maxwell.
The beautiful Georgian home in which James Clerk Maxwell spent the first years of his life was built for his father in the “New Town” section of Edinburgh. The home is now owned by the James Clerk Maxwell Foundation, which as has allowed us to hold our class session in the very rooms in which Maxwell spent his early years. In these rooms, we’ll talk about cultural, environmental, and familial influences on the young James Clerk Maxwell, and our students will also learn about the ground-breaking development in electrical science that was made by Michael Faraday in London in the year of Maxwell’s birth.
