Down House
Scientific revolution was in the air after the work of Hutton, Faraday, and other scientists of the late 17th and early 18th Century – and perhaps the most revolutionary science of the time was done by Charles Darwin.  After a 6-hour rail trip from Edinburgh, Scotland to London, England, our journey of scientific discovery takes us to the very spot at which Darwin did his great work on Evolution: Down House.

At Down House, we’ll visit the study where Darwin wrote On the Origin of Species, and we’ll follow his “thinking path” through the gardens in which he conducted many of his experiments.  Through the generous cooperation of English Heritage, our class session on Evolution will be held within the house in which one of the most important theories in all of science was born.
