This was a place where James Hutton discovered his theory about rock formations and the result of his theory changed the world’s view of time and the development of the earth.  After observing the angular unconformity of the rocks, which was the meeting of the vertical and horizontal layers of rock, Hutton realized that it was necessary for a significantly larger amount of time to take place if such formations were to be formed by the pressures of the earth.
